Earth is full of life. From your immediate surroundings to the inside of your body; from Challenger Deep, the deepest point of the ocean, to the peak of Mount Everest in Tibet, the highest point of the crust; from the richest rainforest to the driest desert, almost every place on Earth is teeming with life.
Biology is the branch of science concerned with the study of life and all its processes. Since ancient time, humans exhibit interests in life. Ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, and China conduct studies about life. But the origins of modern biology and its approach to the study of nature can be traced back to ancient Greece, and Aristotle (considered as the father of biology) was one of their citizens. Other Greeks that made huge contributions in the field of biology are Theophrastus, Pedanius Dioscorides, Pliny the Elder, Hippocrates, Herophilos, Erasistratus, and Galen to name a few.
The invention and improvement of the microscope lead to the quick growth of biology, enabling us to explore the world within our world. Biology is a single-word subject, yet it is very complex. It requires careful observation and experimentation.
